Frequently Asked Questions

1Q: Where is the best place to snorkel?
A: That depends on the surf and the surf changes seasonally. During the summer months, when the ocean is calm on the north shore, Ke’e (end of the road) and Tunnels beach in Haena are the best places to snorkel. They are located about 15 minutes north of our store. Anini beach is another great option on the north shore. The ocean remains quite calm there and may be the best option for kids who are just getting the hang of snorkeling. Anini is located about 10 minutes south of our store. During the winter months, the north shore experiences big surf and snorkeling can be dangerous. The south side of the island would be the best option for snorkeling during the winter.
2Q: How do I know the surf conditions?
A: When you arrive to rent gear, we will give you the best advice on where to go depending on surf conditions. If you’d like to check it out before you stop in, try the following websites: kauaiexplorer.com and click on “Get Today’s Ocean Report” or try surfline.com. Once there, click on “Cams&Reports”, then click on Kauai, then click on Haena (for North Shore snorkeling conditions). This will show you current surf heights, tides, and expected surf conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

1Q: How do we transport the kayaks and SUPs from your store to the river?
A: It’s Easy! We use thick foam pads as a rack to protect your rental car. We then load the kayaks or paddle boards on top of the pads and strap them down. This system works on any vehicle and we provide everything needed!
2Q: Where do we go?
A: The Hanalei River is where most people take them. The mouth of the river is the launch point and is located about a mile from our store.
